Softrim’s patent-pending, blade-free automatic bud trimmer technology employs thousands of highly-engineered, food-grade silicone “fingers” to massage each individual flower to remove leaf waste with minimal to no impact to the structure of the bud. As much as one pound of bud is processed every 20 seconds.
Hand-trim had long been the baseline approach, providing high flower yield, high THC levels and good flower formations, which are all critical to sustainable success in micro-markets. But growth is limited – about 400 lbs a month production by hand is typically the threshold. Further, it requires intense labor (and the time and cost of attracting, training and maintaining that labor) and is fraught with long-turn times on accounts receivable.
The introduction of various rotatory, flower-shaving equipment, both non-exhaust based and exhaust based, can significantly increase throughput of product, but the trimming blades indiscriminately trim highly valuable flower trichomes and cannabinoids along with the flower leaves, acting to lower consumer satisfaction, profitability and growth.

How it works
When hanging plants are dry and ready for bucking, they’re ready for Softrim. The bucked flower is loaded directly into the Softrim bud deleafing machine, ideally located in the dry room. Softrim then uses internal soft silicone fingers to break the dried brittle sugar leaves off the dense flower.
Since the engineered silicone fingers are flexible and do not attach to the sticky trichomes, the structure of the flower stays intact. Speed is also a factor in preserving trichome structures and Softrim 1 lb/20 sec process rate acts to further minimize damage. The result: an end product that provides the highest levels of trichomes and cannabinoids per bud, leading to superior aromas and a preserved terpenes experience.
The system is easy to learn and operate, requires minimal labor and is extremely robust to ensure reliable operation. Further, the technology is quiet and operates on a standard 120V power supply. One Softrim machine replaces several rotary cutters and the energy and floor space required by them.
Most importantly, Softrim’s bud trimmer reliability is proven: over 1,000,000 lbs of flower buds have been successfully trimmed to date, spanning over 100 strains of flowers.
